Beyond Work: SystemSpecs Reinforces Commitment to Employee Wellbeing with Maiden Wellness Week

From health and financial literacy to mental wellbeing, relationships and a company-wide fitness challenge, SystemSpecs’ maiden Wellness Week brought learning, movement and meaningful conversations into the workplace.

What does it mean to truly care for the people who make an organisation work?

At SystemSpecs, the answer goes beyond creating an environment where employees can perform at their best. It also means recognising that behind every role, responsibility, and professional achievement is an individual whose physical health, mental well-being, financial security, and personal relationships matter.

This thinking informed the maiden edition of SystemSpecs Wellness Week, held from September 28 to October 2, 2026. Designed with the Group’s workforce of over 400 employees in mind, the initiative reinforced a simple but important message: their wellbeing matters, and the organisation is committed to supporting it.

Through expert-led conversations, practical demonstrations, health screenings, interactive activities and friendly competition, the week encouraged employees to pay closer attention to their health, habits and quality of life.

Employee wellbeing is an important part of building healthy and sustainable organisations. Yet, meaningful wellbeing requires more than occasional health interventions. It begins with awareness, informed choices and a workplace culture that recognises people as individuals with responsibilities and aspirations beyond their jobs.

For SystemSpecs, the inaugural Wellness Week created an opportunity to bring these conversations into sharper focus, addressing aspects of everyday living that can easily receive less attention amid professional and personal demands.

The initiative, built on the Group’s existing culture of learning, started with its monthly Internal Knowledge Sharing (IKS) sessions. In September, the session was dedicated to financial planning, with Olabode Akinola, Head of Finance Operations at Leadway Assurance, sharing practical insights on managing personal finances and preparing for the future.

This provided a fitting introduction to the Wellness Week and opened with an exploration of preventive healthcare. Dr. Toluwanimi Ademola-Popoola of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) guided employees through understanding key health indicators and building healthier everyday habits.

The session reinforced the value of paying attention to one’s health before problems arise, recognising that early awareness can make a meaningful difference.

Preparedness took centre stage during a first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) session facilitated by Dr. Rotimi Diaro of Reliance HMO. Beyond discussing emergency response, the session featured a practical demonstration of how to assist someone experiencing a medical emergency, helping employees understand actions they can take while awaiting professional medical assistance.

Financial wellbeing received further attention as Damilare Oladeji, CEO of Erad Investment, and Olabode Akinola of Leadway Assurance explored investing with purpose. Their session examined asset classes, risk, returns and portfolio development, encouraging participants to approach investment decisions with greater knowledge and clarity.

Recognising that wellbeing extends beyond physical and financial health, the programme also addressed mental health, relationships, and nutrition.

Dr. Damilola Agboyinu of Bastion HMO led a conversation on depression, digital overload and protecting mental wellbeing. The session encouraged greater awareness of mental health concerns and the need to manage the pressures associated with increasingly demanding and digitally connected lives.

The importance of human connection was explored by Mrs. Gloria Ita, who facilitated a session on building healthy, respectful and fulfilling relationships at work, at home and within the wider community.

Nutrition also featured, with Mrs. Olayinka Akoleowo of Hygeia HMO sharing guidance on healthier food choices and the role of nutrition in maintaining good health.

Together, the conversations reflected the interconnected nature of wellbeing, highlighting how personal habits, emotional health, financial decisions, and relationships shape everyday experiences.

Employees also had opportunities to register for physical health screenings through participating healthcare partners, extending the programme beyond conversations to practical health awareness.

While the expert sessions offered opportunities for learning and reflection, Wellness Week also brought a welcome dose of energy, excitement, and friendly competition.

One of its highlights was the SystemSpecs Steps Challenge, which encouraged employees to track their daily steps and become more intentional about physical activity.

Across the week, participants recorded thousands of steps, transforming a simple everyday activity into a shared experience of movement, motivation and healthy competition.

The challenge demonstrated that healthier living does not always require dramatic changes. Sometimes, progress begins with choosing to walk a little more, taking the stairs or making time to move during a busy day.

Learning also became a team experience through Wellness Trivia, where employees tested their knowledge of the topics explored during the sessions. The activity brought an element of fun to the programme while reinforcing useful lessons.

A touch of green added colour to the week, as employees incorporated green into their outfits, with photographs from the activity also forming part of the Group’s celebration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.

The programme concluded with the recognition of winners from the Wellness Trivia and Steps Challenge, celebrating the enthusiasm, participation and shared experiences that made the maiden edition memorable.

Beyond the sessions and activities, SystemSpecs Wellness Week reflected a broader commitment to creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported and encouraged to thrive.

As the Group continues to invest in its people, the initiative reinforced the understanding that employee wellbeing deserves attention not only because it contributes to a healthy workplace, but because the people behind the work matter.

“At SystemSpecs, we recognise that our people have lives, responsibilities and aspirations beyond the workplace. Wellness Week was an opportunity to remind every employee that their wellbeing matters to us. We wanted to create space for meaningful conversations, practical learning and activities that encourage healthier choices, both at work and in their personal lives.” – Mrs. Bukola Adeboye

The maiden edition also demonstrated the value of making wellbeing a shared experience, bringing colleagues together around subjects that affect everyone, regardless of role or responsibility.

From understanding health indicators and preparing for emergencies to making informed financial decisions, protecting mental health and nurturing relationships, the programme offered lessons employees could carry into their daily lives.

The sessions may have ended, and the steps may have stopped counting, but the most important measure of success will be the healthier habits, informed decisions, and positive changes that continue long after the week itself. Because when people are encouraged to thrive beyond their job descriptions, the benefits extend beyond the workplace.
